Apple: 100K+ Duo-optimized apps now on App Store
Original: The Duo apps are coming, says Apple
Why This Matters
Foldable app support has historically lagged hardware—Apple closing that gap fast matters.
Apple announced Friday that over 100,000 apps are now optimized for the iPhone Duo foldable, with thousands more added daily. New arrivals include Microsoft Word, Zoom, Halide, and NBA/NHL sports apps.
Apple's iPhone Duo launched to strong demand but weak app support—reviewers noted non-optimized apps left an ugly black bar on-screen and buried key functions in overflow menus. Apple is now pushing back on that narrative. On Friday, the company confirmed the App Store has surpassed 100,000 Duo-optimized apps, with thousands more submitted each day.
The latest wave of Duo-ready apps includes Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Zoom, Etsy, LTK, Goodnotes, Halide Mark III, NBA, and NHL apps. These join earlier optimized titles like Netflix, YouTube, Instagram, and WhatsApp. A longer list of updated apps spans Spotify, ChatGPT, Grok Bot, Canva, Strava, Tesla Robotaxi, Tinder, and dozens more—though Apple notes not all updates have fully rolled out yet.
To accelerate development, Apple hosted over 50 in-person workshops across 19 cities worldwide, with more than 2,000 developers attending to build and test their apps hands-on with the device. "The enthusiasm has been incredible," said Susan Prescott, Apple's VP of Worldwide Developer Relations.
Meanwhile, hardware supply remains tight. The Duo starts at $1,999 for the 256GB model, sold out within hours of launch, and ship times have slipped into next year. On its recent earnings call, Apple said it's "hard to predict" when supply constraints will ease.
