Meta's Edits app adds AI assistant and desktop version
Original: Meta’s Edits app is getting an AI assistant and a desktop version
Why This Matters
Meta strengthens its creator tools ecosystem to compete with TikTok and YouTube
Meta previewed upcoming features for its video-editing app Edits at a creator event in LA, including an AI assistant that analyzes Instagram data and suggests content ideas, plus a desktop version for enhanced editing capabilities.
Meta announced new features for its Edits video-editing app, launched last year to compete with ByteDance's CapCut. The upcoming AI assistant will help creators analyze Instagram insights and brainstorm content ideas using their views and video-retention data. It will suggest video concepts based on performance and recommend trending audio. A desktop version will provide creators with more precise editing control and larger screen workflows, with seamless syncing between mobile and desktop devices. New features launching immediately include a Beta tab for experimental features and expanded audience insights with demographic breakdowns and engagement timing data. The AI assistant aims to keep creators on Instagram's platform instead of using external tools like ChatGPT. Similar to YouTube Studio's Inspiration tab and TikTok's AI assistant, Meta is providing creators with integrated brainstorming tools to encourage more frequent posting.
