Theker raises $85M for modular factory robots in Europe's largest Series A
Original: Theker just raised $85M to build the factory robot that doesn’t specialize in anything
Why This Matters
Addresses factory labor shortages with flexible automation beyond single-task robots
Barcelona-based AI robotics startup Theker raised $85 million in Series A funding led by CRV, calling it Europe's largest robotics Series A. The company builds modular robots that can be reconfigured for different factory tasks rather than specializing in one function. Backers include Samsung and LVMH-linked Aglaé Ventures.
Theker develops AI-powered robots with interchangeable hands, arms and forms that can be reconfigured for various tasks like sorting packages, packing clothing, or handling bottles in warehouses. Unlike fixed-form humanoid robots, Theker's machines adapt to different manufacturing processes. Co-founder Carla Gómez Cano said they target real operations departments rather than innovation labs for faster deployment. Early backer Inditex (Zara's parent) signals retail focus, but the company aims to expand into heavier industrial manufacturing. Samsung is an investor and potential customer in advanced discussions. The startup plans to grow from dozens to 120 employees by year-end and open showrooms across Europe, US and Asia.
