Why This Matters
Would represent massive valuation jump for leading AI company ahead of potential IPO
Anthropic, maker of Claude AI assistant, has received multiple preemptive funding offers of around $50 billion at valuations between $850-900 billion according to sources. The company's annual revenue run rate has surpassed $30 billion, up dramatically from $9 billion at end of 2025.
Sources say Anthropic is finding it difficult to resist pressure to secure more funding in what could be its final private round before a potential IPO. The company is expected to decide on the round and valuation at a May board meeting. The round is expected to total $40-50 billion with investor demand appearing much higher given rapid growth. One institutional investor prepared to commit $5 billion has yet to secure a meeting with CFO Krishna Rao. The company's current run rate is closer to $40 billion according to sources familiar with financials. A large portion of revenue is driven by AI coding capabilities through Claude Code and Cowork platforms. Anthropic raised its last round at a $380 billion valuation in February.
