On Friday, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman posted what he called a "cool use case" for the company's new ChatGPT Work product: parents could connect family calendars and their children's interests to the platform, then have it generate a custom daily podcast each morning for the school commute — covering topics like an upcoming soccer game or a child's birthday. The post quickly became a flashpoint online. Alex Hirsch, creator of the animated series "Gravity Falls," responded simply: "What if you just talked to your children?" Hirsch's reply went significantly more viral — receiving approximately 9,000 reposts and 122,000 likes, compared to Altman's roughly 300 reposts and 9,600 likes as of Saturday morning. This is not the first time Altman has championed AI as a parenting resource. He previously told "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon" that he "cannot imagine having gone through figuring out how to raise a newborn without ChatGPT." The episode also echoes Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella's admission that he replaced podcast listening during his morning commute with AI chatbot queries. OpenAI has been actively courting the family demographic, recently posting a job listing for a product manager focused on trust-sensitive consumer experiences for parents. However, the company simultaneously faces multiple lawsuits from families alleging ChatGPT contributed to loved ones' delusions and suicides. OpenAI has stated it is "continuously improving how our models respond in sensitive interactions."
