Salesforce Buys Defense AI Startup Rune for $375M

Original: Salesforce’s M&A spree continues with a reported $375M deal for defense tech startup Rune

Why This Matters

Salesforce's defense push signals enterprise SaaS moving deeper into government contracts.

Salesforce agreed to acquire Rune Technologies, an AI logistics startup serving the U.S. military, for $375M in cash and stock, adding to a busy 2026 M&A run that includes deals worth over $5B combined.

Salesforce is acquiring Rune Technologies for $375 million in cash and stock, according to Resilience Media. Founded in 2024, Rune builds AI software that helps the U.S. military predict supply needs and manage field logistics. The deal plugs into Missionforce, Salesforce's defense and national security business unit, which launched last year and has since grown 80% year over year. A key driver: a 10-year, $5.6 billion U.S. Army contract. With Rune's frontline logistics data, Missionforce aims to move beyond back-office planning into active battlefield operations support. Rune had raised $30 million total from Andreessen Horowitz, Point72 Ventures, and IQT (formerly In-Q-Tel, a CIA-backed venture firm), and was last valued at $127 million after a Series A led by Human Capital. Salesforce's 2026 acquisition pace has been aggressive: it also agreed to buy Fin (formerly Intercom) for $3.6 billion, Qualified for $1.2 billion, and Listen Labs at a reported $1.5 billion valuation. Salesforce did not respond to a comment request.
