RustDesk announced on August 14, 2026 that it now supports true unattended remote access on Wayland, one of the longest-standing challenges in Linux remote desktop software. The new capability allows connections to a remote machine without requiring a user to be physically present to approve each session, and works from the login screen even after a reboot. Multi-monitor configurations are also supported.
The release is currently available as a separate preview build for x86_64 Debian/Ubuntu-based systems while the team gathers real-world feedback before merging it into standard releases. RustDesk notes that competing products lag in this area: AnyDesk still requires Xorg for incoming Linux sessions, and TeamViewer describes its Wayland support as experimental for common desktop environments.
Once the implementation is deemed stable, RustDesk plans to extend unattended Wayland access to additional distributions including Fedora and Arch Linux, and ultimately incorporate the feature into its standard release builds. The team is actively soliciting user feedback, particularly from those running multi-monitor setups.
