Firefox becomes last major browser supporting uBlock Origin
Original: Firefox is now the last major browser that still supports uBlock Origin
Why This Matters
Firefox's uBlock Origin support may drive significant user migration away from Chromium-based browsers.
Mozilla Firefox confirmed on August 10, 2026 via Bluesky that it will continue supporting uBlock Origin, making it the only major browser to do so after Microsoft Edge announced plans to phase out Manifest V2 extensions under its Chromium-based Manifest V3 transition.
Firefox publicly stated on Bluesky on August 10, 2026: 'Our support for uBlock Origin isn't going anywhere.' The announcement comes as Microsoft Edge prepares to block uBlock Origin and other Manifest V2 extensions by migrating to Manifest V3 — following Google's earlier move in Chrome/Chromium. Edge is built on Chromium, the same open-source engine powering Opera, Brave, Vivaldi, and Samsung Browser. Under Manifest V3, ad-blocking extensions lose access to the APIs required to identify and block ads on websites and videos, significantly reducing their effectiveness. Firefox, which does not run on Chromium, now stands as the sole major browser with full uBlock Origin support. The other two major non-Chromium browsers — Safari and DuckDuckGo — do not support uBlock Origin. Users on any other browser must rely on uBlock Origin Lite, a reduced-feature version, or the browser's own built-in ad-blocking tools.
