Reticulum is an open networking stack enabling decentralized, encrypted mesh networks using commodity hardware. It operates under high latency and low bandwidth conditions, with no source addresses, no central control, and mandatory end-to-end encryption by default.

Reticulum is a cryptography-based networking stack designed for building local and wide-area networks using readily available hardware. Unlike conventional network stacks, Reticulum transmits no source address information in packets, ensuring sender anonymity by design. The address space is fully decentralized — anyone can allocate addresses without central authority approval. Newly created addresses become globally reachable within seconds to a few minutes and are portable, meaning they remain reachable even after physical relocation within the network. All communication is encrypted by default using modern cryptographic standards with ephemeral keys, providing forward secrecy. Unencrypted links and packets are structurally impossible and are dropped as invalid. Reticulum is designed to function under adverse conditions including very high latency and extremely low bandwidth environments. The project's stated goal is to allow individuals and communities to operate sovereign communication networks free from kill-switches, surveillance, censorship, and centralized control, potentially scaling to planetary-level infrastructure without hierarchical management structures.
