Palo Alto Networks Eyes Clutch Security for $500M
Original: Palo Alto Networks in talks to buy AI agent security startup Clutch for $500M
Why This Matters
AI agent security is a fast-consolidating niche as enterprises deploy autonomous AI systems.
Palo Alto Networks is in talks to acquire AI agent security startup Clutch Security for $500M cash plus milestone payouts, valuing the 3-year-old company at ~50x its nearly $10M ARR, per a source familiar with the discussions.
Palo Alto Networks is in advanced talks to buy Clutch Security, a startup that controls AI agents' access to enterprise systems, for $500 million in cash plus additional milestone-based payouts. The deal would value Clutch at roughly 50 times its current ARR, which is approaching $10 million — a steep but not unusual multiple in today's AI security market.
Clutch raised a $20 million Series A in January 2025 led by Lightspeed and SignalFire, at an $85 million valuation. If the acquisition closes, that's nearly a 6x return on that last valuation in under two years. Neither company responded to requests for comment; The Information first reported the talks.
The deal would mark Palo Alto Networks' seventh acquisition this year, per PitchBook. The company has been on an aggressive buying spree as AI-driven cyberattacks accelerate. Its 2026 purchases include Console ($500M), Embrace ($325M), Chronosphere ($2.95B), and Koi ($231M). The AI agent security space is consolidating fast: Cyera acquired rival Oasis Security for $1 billion, and Cisco snapped up Astrix for roughly $400 million.
