Apple MacBook Pro Gets PROLED XDR Touch Display
Original: MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch
Why This Matters
First Mac touchscreen marks a major shift in Apple's longstanding no-touch-Mac stance.
Apple announced a new MacBook Pro with a tandem OLED PROLED XDR display, Touch screen, Dynamic Island, M5 Pro/Max chips, and Thunderbolt 5. Available November 6, starting at 3.0 lbs for the 14-inch model.
Apple is adding a touchscreen MacBook Pro to its lineup, launching November 6. The new model features a 'PROLED XDR' tandem OLED display — distinct from the Mini-LED Liquid Retina XDR panels found in standard MacBook Pros — delivering up to 2000 nits peak HDR and SDR brightness, a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and coverage of both P3 and Adobe RGB color gamuts. Apple positions it as reference-caliber for filmmaking, design, and medical imaging.
The redesigned chassis brings slimmer bezels, a lighter build (14-inch at 3.0 lbs, 16-inch at 4.0 lbs), Dynamic Island, and a revamped thermal system. Touch support enables Multi-Touch gestures directly on screen. The audio system gets a six-speaker overhaul promising 50% deeper bass, and the 12MP Center Stage camera includes stabilization to compensate for touch interactions. Connectivity includes three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, MagSafe 3, SDXC, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 6. Battery life is rated up to 24 hours. It runs on M5 Pro or M5 Max chips. A separate standard MacBook Pro line — featuring M6, M5 Pro, or M5 Max — continues with non-touch Mini-LED displays.
