Why This Matters
River's growth signals strong investor confidence in India's rapidly expanding electric two-wheeler market.
Indian electric two-wheeler startup River raised $120M in a Series C round led by Elev8 Venture Partners and Claypond Capital. Total capital raised reaches $144M. The company sells ~6,000 units/month and reported 330% revenue growth in FY2026.
River, an Indian electric two-wheeler startup founded in 2021, announced a $120 million Series C round on August 5, 2026. The round was led by Elev8 Venture Partners and Claypond Capital, with participation from Singularity AMC, Anicut Capital, 360 ONE Asset, JIF Capital, HDFC AMC, and existing backers Yamaha Motor, Al-Futtaim Group, and Mitsui. Less than 10–12% of the round was venture debt; the remainder was primary equity with no secondary sales. Total capital raised now stands at $144 million.
River has built its business around a single model, the Indie moped (priced at ₹155,000 / ~$1,630), launched in 2023. The company now sells approximately 6,000 units per month through more than 75 stores across India and has shipped over 50,000 units to date. Daily production has scaled from 20 vehicles to 300 vehicles. Revenue grew 330% in fiscal year ending March 2026, with monthly revenue reaching ~₹1 billion (~$11M).
CEO Aravind Mani said River targets operational profitability once monthly production reaches 20,000–25,000 units, a milestone aimed for by 2028–29. The company is nearing capacity at its Bengaluru facility (10,000 units/month) and plans to introduce two additional models starting next year, contingent on expanded manufacturing capacity.
