Bending Spoons to Acquire Airtable for $1.28B
Original: Bending Spoons to buy Airtable for $1.28B
Why This Matters
The deal highlights continued consolidation of SaaS platforms by acquirers targeting discount-to-peak valuations.
Italian app company Bending Spoons announced on August 4, 2026, it will acquire spreadsheet and database startup Airtable for $1.28 billion in cash. Airtable, founded in 2013, had raised over $1.4 billion in funding and was once valued at $11 billion in 2021.
Bending Spoons, which went public at an $18 billion valuation in July 2026, announced its first post-IPO acquisition: the $1.28 billion cash purchase of Airtable. Including Airtable's net cash-and-cash-equivalents, the effective enterprise valuation is approximately $2.25 billion, well below Airtable's 2021 peak valuation of $11 billion and a secondary market valuation of $4 billion earlier this year. Airtable reported annual recurring revenue of approximately $480 million as of June 2026, growing over 20% year-over-year. The company serves over 500,000 organizations, including 80% of the Fortune 100. In January 2026, Airtable launched 'Superagent,' an AI agent orchestration platform. Bending Spoons founder Luca Ferrari cited Airtable's brand strength and revenue growth as key reasons for the deal. Bending Spoons has a track record of acquiring discounted consumer and enterprise software brands — including Evernote, WeTransfer, Eventbrite, and Vimeo — then cutting staff, streamlining products, and optimizing for profitability.
