The UK Government Digital Service (GDS) has awarded Dutch payment processor Adyen a three-year contract worth up to £25.3 million to replace Stripe for GOV.UK Pay services. The migration affects approximately 1,000 services used by local authorities, police forces, and armed forces units. While representing only 17% of total payments, the contract covers over 70% of organizations using the platform. The change introduces pay by bank functionality, allowing direct bank account transfers via open banking without requiring card details. GDS will migrate services while ensuring no functionality loss for users. WorldPay continues processing payments for central government, NHS bodies, and linked organizations. GOV.UK Pay has processed 137.5 million transactions worth £9.2 billion since 2016, serving 608 organizations through 1,718 services including 662 for local government and 256 for police forces.
