The startup's core concept is an automated scientific method: proposing, implementing, running, and evaluating experiments in autonomous loops at scale. Dean described the approach publicly at Y Combinator's Startup School on July 25, 2026, before the company was officially announced. Discovery Loop plans to be its own first customer, initially applying its automated ML loops to improve its own machine learning algorithms. Le noted the potential to discover entirely new AI architectures, saying, 'It might be that we will discover a different transformer architecture.'
