Why This Matters
Fox gains 100M+ streaming households; signals accelerating consolidation in connected TV.
Fox has finalized its $22 billion acquisition of Roku, closing the deal months ahead of schedule and giving Fox direct access to Roku's 100 million+ household audience in the connected TV market.
Fox has completed its $22 billion acquisition of Roku, wrapping up one of the largest media deals in recent years. The deal closed in November 2026, well ahead of the first-half 2027 timeline projected when the acquisition was announced in June. Fox says the combined entity now ranks as the third-largest television business in the U.S. by viewership.
For Fox, the acquisition delivers immediate scale: Roku's reach of more than 100 million households gives it a platform to sharpen ad targeting, deepen its connected TV position, and reduce dependence on traditional TV distribution channels.
Roku founder Anthony Wood, who started the company in 2002, framed the deal as an expansion of resources rather than a change in direction. "We started Roku more than two decades ago to give people a better way to watch TV, and that mission doesn't change today. What does change is our reach and resources," Wood said in a statement.
The path to closing wasn't without friction. The Justice Department issued a second request for information two months ago, seeking additional documents as part of its antitrust review. Reports earlier this month suggested regulatory approval was imminent, and the deal ultimately cleared those hurdles faster than anticipated.
