AWS reported operational issues beginning Thursday night caused by overheating at a data center in its US-East-1 region in northern Virginia. The problems affected a single Availability Zone and impaired EC2 instances providing virtual server capacity. Sports betting platform FanDuel acknowledged technical difficulties preventing user access at 9:00 PM Thursday, later confirming the issues were tied to the broader AWS outage. Cryptocurrency platform Coinbase also reported failures across multiple AWS zones. AWS said at 3:29 PM Friday that full recovery would still take several hours, noting efforts were slower than anticipated.
