Accenture announced it will acquire Ookla, the company behind Speedtest and Downdetector, to strengthen network intelligence services. The deal targets Communications Service Providers, hyperscalers, and enterprises seeking to optimize Wi-Fi and 5G networks for AI applications.

Accenture entered an agreement to acquire Seattle-based Ookla, known for its Speedtest, Downdetector, Ekahau, and RootMetrics brands. Ookla operates a data platform capturing over 250 million consumer-initiated tests monthly with more than 1,000 attributes per test. The 430-person company, founded in 2006 and currently part of Ziff Davis, specializes in network intelligence and connectivity analytics. CEO Julie Sweet emphasized that modern networks have evolved into business-critical platforms essential for AI scaling. The acquisition will help clients optimize network performance across sectors including banking fraud prevention, utilities smart home analytics, and retail traffic optimization. Ookla CEO Stephen Bye stated the deal will accelerate their goal of creating better connected experiences globally.
