Original: Ex-Anduril engineer raises $42M to build the Amazon of composite parts
Why This Matters
Addresses gap in composite manufacturing automation and supply chain efficiency
Zack Eakin, former Anduril engineer, raised $42 million Series A for Layup Parts, a startup making carbon fiber and fiberglass part ordering as easy as Amazon. Marlinspike led the round with participation from Cerberus Ventures.
Layup Parts, founded by former Anduril engineer Zack Eakin, secured $42 million in Series A funding led by Marlinspike, with participation from Cerberus Ventures, Pinegrove Venture Partners, Founders Fund, and LUX Capital. The Huntington Beach startup employs about 60 people and aims to simplify custom composite parts ordering. Eakin previously raised $9 million in seed funding two years ago. He has two decades of experience with composite materials, including roles at Chip Ganassi Racing, Boring Company, and Anduril. Eakin noticed that while companies like SendCutSend and Protolabs had revolutionized industrial fabrication, no one was doing this for composites. The funding will primarily go toward hiring and expanding facilities, as the previous round was mostly spent on capital expenditures.
