X cracks down on content theft in creator program

Original: X cracks down on creators who steal content

Why This Matters

The crackdown signals X's effort to protect creator monetization integrity as AI-driven content theft scales across social platforms.

X is using its Grok AI model to detect stolen content at three times the previous rate, redirecting monetized impressions to original creators. The platform detected 1.5 million stolen posts in its latest cycle, with over $1 million in payouts being returned to original creators.

X is tightening enforcement against content theft and engagement solicitation within its creator revenue-sharing program. According to Nikita Bier, X's newest Grok AI model can detect duplicated content at three times the rate of its predecessor. Crucially, stolen content that has been modified with watermarks, intros, or other edits to disguise its origin will now have its monetized impressions redirected to the original uploader — a rule that also applies to copied viral text posts.

In its latest enforcement cycle, X detected 1.5 million stolen posts. As a result, over $1 million in creator payouts will be redistributed to the original content creators. X has not specified the timeframe of the cycle.

On the bot front, X says it has been working to suspend automated accounts more quickly. In April, Bier stated the platform was suspending '208 bots per minute and growing.'

Regarding engagement solicitation, users caught three or more times (e.g., posting 'I'll follow everyone who replies') will be removed from the creator program and referred to X's policy team for possible suspension. Repeated or intentional attempts to circumvent the new content theft policy will also result in removal from the program.
