Tool removes Apple Intelligence from macOS 27
Original: Turn off Apple Intelligence on macOS 27 and get its disk space back
Why This Matters
Signals user pushback against opt-out AI features Apple embedded in its OS.
Open-source tool RemoveMacAI disables Apple Intelligence on macOS 27, removes downloaded AI models from disk, and blocks future re-downloads — all reversible via one command.
Apple's macOS 27 dropped the single toggle that previously disabled Apple Intelligence, and the AI models remain on disk even after users manually disable individual features. Developer omlahore's RemoveMacAI fills that gap. The tool installs via a one-line curl command, verifies its SHA-256 checksum, and runs from a temporary directory — nothing persists on the system unless you want it to. It also supports Homebrew installation.
Under the hood, RemoveMacAI opens System Settings to install a configuration profile (macOS requires user approval for this step), then strips the downloaded AI models and prevents macOS from pulling them back down. All changes are fully reversible. Every release is built from its tagged source via GitHub Actions and carries a build provenance attestation, verifiable with the GitHub CLI. The project has collected 438 stars and 12 forks since launch, signaling real demand among users who want storage or privacy control Apple hasn't provided natively.
