Bedrock Robotics raises $600M at $4.1B valuation

Why This Matters

Construction automation is gaining traction as skilled-labor shortages hit the sector hard.

Bedrock Robotics closed a $600M Series C co-led by CapitalG and Emergence Capital, valuing the two-year-old autonomous construction equipment startup at $4.1B, with excavators now operating on live commercial sites.

Bedrock Robotics has raised $600 million in a Series C round that values the startup at $4.1 billion — a striking number for a company founded just two years ago in 2024. The round was co-led by CapitalG and Emergence Capital, bringing Bedrock's total funding to nearly $1 billion.

The company makes a self-driving retrofit kit for construction vehicles, with its autonomous excavators now working on three active commercial sites: a Nevada water treatment facility, a Texas earthwork site run by Champion Site Prep, and a 1.2 million-cubic-yard civil project with Zachry Construction Corporation. That commercial deployment happened just two months before this raise was announced.

CEO Boris Sofman previously led Waymo's self-driving trucks program before it was shut down, and co-founded Anki Robotics, the company behind the Cozmo consumer robot that closed in 2019. Fellow co-founders Kevin Peterson (CTO) and Ajay Gummalla (VP Engineering) also come from Waymo.

Bedrock's pitch centers on a real labor problem: excavator operators take five or more years to train, and the Associated Builders and Contractors estimates over 40% of construction workers will retire within five years. New partner Haydon, an Arizona general contractor, plans to deploy Bedrock-equipped machines across data centers, healthcare facilities, and water infrastructure projects.
