The decision comes weeks after the administration previously ordered Anthropic to suspend access for foreign nationals. Under the new agreement, Anthropic has committed to proactively detect and address security risks, and to work with the U.S. government on protocols and standards for the models' releases. Commerce Secretary Lutnick, alongside national cyber director Sean Cairncross, led negotiations to resolve the administration's dispute with Anthropic. The company initially contended that security concerns were overblown, arguing it was impossible to ensure zero jailbreaks. However, Anthropic subsequently shifted its approach, with cofounder Tom Brown replacing CEO Dario Amodei in meetings with government officials.
