Kdenlive, the KDE-based video editor, published its annual development report showing significant progress in 2025. The team released three major versions following KDE Gear's April, August, and December cycle. Version 25.04.0 introduced automatic background removal using SAM2 model-based Object Segmentation plugin and rewrote OpenTimelineIO support using C++ library for better project exchange compatibility. Audio waveform generation received a 300% performance boost with higher resolution rendering. Version 25.08.0 prioritized stability with over 300 commits fixing 15+ crashes, redesigned audio mixer with improved HiDPI display support, and overhauled markers and guides system. Version 25.12.0 focused on user experience improvements including a new welcome screen for first-time users and flexible docking system for customizable layouts. The team also relaunched their website and strengthened collaboration with MLT developers. Upcoming version 26.04 will feature monitor mirroring and animated transition previews.
