The figures highlight the deep financial interconnection among Elon Musk's companies. SpaceX, whose CEO and largest shareholder is Musk, also acquired xAI — Musk's AI company — earlier in 2026. xAI had previously merged with Musk's social media platform X in 2025. The Megapacks are believed to be deployed at xAI data centers. Before the SpaceX-xAI merger, xAI had already purchased $430 million worth of Megapacks for its data centers; in Q1 2026, that figure was just $34 million. SpaceX also disclosed it had acquired $131 million worth of Tesla Cybertrucks at MSRP as of December 2025. Although xAI's data centers rely heavily on natural gas — including dozens of reportedly unpermitted turbines near the Colossus site in Mississippi — large-scale batteries like Megapacks play a critical role in managing fluctuating GPU power demand, providing rapid backup power and smoothing peak load spikes to reduce utility costs.
