Snap Launches Specs AR Glasses at $2,195 Price Point
Original: Snap finally debuts its long-awaited AR glasses, Specs, and, oof, they aren’t cheap
Why This Matters
Marks Snap's official AR glasses market entry, establishing a third major competitor in spatial computing between Meta and Apple.
Snap unveiled its long-awaited consumer AR glasses called Specs on June 16, 2026, priced at $2,195. Preorders begin with a $200 deposit, with shipping expected fall 2026 in the U.S., U.K., and France.
At a spatial AI convention in Long Beach on Tuesday, Snap finally unveiled Specs, its consumer smart glasses after over a decade of development. The device is priced at $2,195, positioning it between Meta Ray-Bans (starting at $350) and Apple Vision Pro ($3,500). Preorders opened June 16 with a $200 refundable deposit, with fall 2026 shipping planned for the U.S., U.K., and France. The last consumer-facing smart glasses from Snap were released in 2019; recent iterations were developer-only until the company spun off a dedicated division earlier this year. Specs feature all computing onboard with two Snapdragon processors, eliminating the need for external tethers or computing packs. Battery life reaches four hours continuously, extending to 20 hours with the charging case. The glasses offer a 51-degree field of view with 16 million colors and come in two sizes: 47mm (132 grams) and 52mm (136 grams), making them lighter than Apple Vision Pro but heavier than Meta Ray-Bans. Key features include multiplayer gaming with EyeConnect (activated by eye contact), video recording, web browsing, email access, and contextual AI that provides information about objects users look at. Privacy protections include a recording indicator LED and user control over data storage and syncing. The device represents Snap's entry into the competitive spatial computing market after years of development.
