Siri AI Becomes iPhone's Core Interface in iOS 27

Original: Siri AI Is Becoming Apple’s Everything Tool

Why This Matters

Siri's OS-wide integration signals Apple's strategic shift toward AI as a foundational layer of its mobile platform.

Apple's revamped Siri AI, now available in the iOS 27 public beta, has been transformed from a voice assistant into a central interface layer integrated across the iPhone OS. The update introduces a chatbot-style app and deep OS-wide access via voice or text.

Apple released the iOS 27 public beta on July 13, 2026, marking the first time its redesigned Siri AI—unveiled at WWDC in June—is accessible to the general public. Branded as 'Siri AI,' the update expands beyond traditional voice controls to include a ChatGPT-style conversational app and deep integration throughout the iPhone operating system.

WIRED's Reece Rogers tested an earlier developer beta and found the assistant capable of locating old photos, drafting texts, and recommending restaurants via simple prompts. Nabila Popal, senior research director at International Data Corporation, noted: 'They've integrated it across the entire ecosystem, so you can access Siri AI no matter where you are on the device. You can talk to it. You can also access it via an app.'

The new Siri app functions primarily as a conversation log, allowing users to review or resume past sessions. Siri is also embedded into iPhone's native search, reducing the need to open the standalone app. Users retain the option to disable Siri entirely. Conversation history can be set to be stored for 30 days, one year, or indefinitely via Settings. Access requires joining Apple's Siri waitlist after downloading the beta.
