Rocket Lab Corporation and Iridium Communications announced on June 29, 2026, that they have entered into a definitive agreement for Rocket Lab to acquire Iridium. Under the terms, Rocket Lab will purchase all outstanding shares of Iridium common stock at $54 per share, representing an enterprise value of approximately $8.0 billion. The transaction combines Rocket Lab's leading launch capabilities and satellite manufacturing with Iridium's global satellite communications network, spectrum, and 500-plus partner ecosystem. The merged company will design, build, launch, and operate its own satellite constellations. Iridium operates a low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite network supporting more than 2.55 million active subscribers worldwide, providing voice, data, and positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) services. The company serves government, defense, aviation, maritime, and commercial markets with weather-resilient connectivity and alternative PNT architecture for applications where GPS and other Global Navigation Satellite Systems are degraded or unavailable. Rocket Lab stated the acquisition will add material revenue scale and be significantly accretive to cash flow generation and profitability. The transaction is expected to create a vertically-integrated space company positioned as a competitive challenger in the global telecom market.
