Founded in 2017 in the spirit of Bell Labs, Cirrus Labs operated without external capital for nine years, creating CI/CD systems supporting Linux, Windows, and macOS in 2018, and Tart virtualization for Apple Silicon in 2022. The company will relicense its source-available tools including Tart, Vetu, and Orchard under more permissive licenses and stop charging licensing fees. Cirrus Runners will stop accepting new customers while supporting existing ones through contract periods. Cirrus CI will shut down on June 1, 2026. Korotkov cited the era of 'agentic engineering' as driving the decision to join OpenAI.
