OBS Studio 33.0 Released with Major Updates
Original: OBS Studio 33
Why This Matters
OBS powers a massive share of live streaming; plugin and CEF changes affect millions of setups.
OBS Studio 33.0.0 dropped Oct 23, bringing a CEF browser framework jump from v127 to v150, a full plugin loading overhaul, improved source snapping, and NVENC support on Arm64 hardware.
OBS Studio 33.0.0 is out, and it's a substantial release. The biggest backend change: the Chromium Embedded Framework (CEF) used for browser sources and docks has been updated from version 127 (July 2024) to version 150 (September 2026), a roughly two-year leap. The team notes this should be invisible to users but flags it as a potential source of new quirks — bug reports are encouraged.
Plugin architecture got a full rework. First-party plugins move to a new 'core' folder, while third-party plugins have a revised installation structure. Existing plugins still load from legacy paths, with that compatibility window closing in OBS 34.0.
Source snapping in the preview is smarter: a new visual indicator appears, sources snap along the full axis (not just on direct contact), and hidden sources no longer interfere. Spinbox inputs also saw a cleanup — typing no longer mysteriously locks up, Enter submits without closing the window, and Shift+Up/Down steps through values faster.
NVENC hardware encoding is now enabled for Arm64 systems. A missing-encoder check was also added when loading profiles, catching a long-standing edge case that could silently drop settings.
