Apple iMac Gets M6 Chip, Debuts November 6

Original: New iMac with M6

Why This Matters

M6's Dual Neural Engine signals Apple pushing hard on local AI compute for consumers.

Apple announced the iMac with M6 chip, available November 6 after pre-orders open October 28 at 10:10 a.m. PT. The new all-in-one claims up to 5x faster on-device AI than the M4 iMac and up to 18x faster than popular Intel-based models.

Apple's updated 24-inch iMac ships with the new M6 chip, bringing a faster CPU, up to 32GB of unified memory, and what Apple calls the first-ever Dual 16-core Neural Engine. The company claims the machine runs on-device AI tasks up to 5x faster than the M4 iMac, 12x faster than the M1 iMac, and up to 18x faster than popular Intel-based iMacs. The 4.5K Retina display and seven-color lineup carry over from previous generations. Apple is leaning hard into AI positioning: the machine supports third-party AI apps including Claude, LM Studio Bionic, Gemini, and Topaz Labs tools, alongside Apple's own Apple Intelligence suite. The updated Siri AI, now embedded directly into Spotlight, supports conversational follow-up questions. Apple Intelligence features are currently English-only, with usage limits noted. Pre-orders open October 28; units ship November 6. Financing is available through Apple Upgrade with 24- or 36-month lease options.
