Market intelligence firm Apptopia compared the two apps using iOS-only data from the U.S. and Canada for the first 12 days of each launch — an effort to align what were otherwise mismatched rollout strategies. ChatGPT launched globally on iOS only; Muse launched on both iOS and Android, but restricted to the U.S. and Canada. On that narrowed iOS basis, Muse pulled 1.8 million downloads versus ChatGPT's 1.3 million. Daily active users tell a similar story: Muse is logging 642,000 U.S. daily active users across platforms, against 231,000 for ChatGPT at the comparable point. Narrowing again to iOS only, Muse still leads with 359,000 daily users. Separately, Appfigures confirmed the app crossed 1 million downloads shortly after launch, at which point it had already climbed from No. 2 to No. 1 on the U.S. App Store — bumping ChatGPT down in the process. Apptopia's figures are third-party estimates, not internal Meta data, so some margin of error applies. Still, the directional signal is clear. Meta has a proven playbook here: Threads launched with aggressive cross-promotion across Instagram and Facebook, and now sits above 500 million users. Muse is expected to receive the same treatment.
