Meta launches MCP server to automate WhatsApp Business setup

Meta announced on September 15, 2026 a new WhatsApp Business Tools MCP server, letting AI agents such as Claude, Cursor, Codex, and ChatGPT handle account creation, phone number verification, Cloud API registration, and template management — replacing a fragmented multi-tool setup process.
Meta's new WhatsApp Business Tools MCP server connects AI coding agents directly to the WhatsApp Business Platform via the Model Context Protocol. Previously, developers had to juggle the Developer Console, Business Manager, the API reference, and their code editor separately. Now they can describe what they need in plain language to an agent of their choice and let it handle the busywork.
Specifically, the agent can create a WhatsApp Business account, add and verify a phone number, register for Cloud API access, review Terms of Service status, and build or edit messaging templates. It can also test messages and webhooks, and flag issues that might otherwise go unnoticed — such as expired payment methods or lapsed Business Verification.
Meta's existing Meta Social Technologies MCP server complements this by helping discover API endpoints, search documentation, and troubleshoot errors during setup.
This extends Meta's growing MCP portfolio, which already covers ad management and app configuration monitoring. The announcement came alongside news of new AI-focused subscription plans. Meta joins a broad field of MCP adopters including PayPal, Stripe, GitHub, Notion, Slack, Salesforce, Atlassian, X, Google, and Microsoft.
