OONI (Open Observatory of Network Interference) offers OONI Probe, a free tool for Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, and Linux that measures internet censorship by testing website blocks, app restrictions, and network speed, publishing results in near real-time to an open global dataset.
OONI Probe is an open-source network measurement tool maintained by OONI, available across mobile, desktop, and command-line platforms. Users run tests to detect which websites are blocked in their country, check whether apps like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and Telegram are accessible, and measure network speed via the NDT test developed with M-Lab. Results are automatically published to what OONI describes as the world's largest open dataset on internet censorship. The tool supports circumvention tool testing as well, letting users verify whether VPNs or similar software function on their network. Data is shared publicly under a Creative Commons license, building a crowd-sourced, global picture of network interference. OONI operates as a non-profit with an international community of contributors.
