Lucid Motors Q3 Output Hits Near Two-Year Low
Original: Lucid Motors’ EV output falls to lowest level in almost 2 years
Why This Matters
Lucid's sustained demand gap tests whether luxury-only EV startups can survive without volume models.
Lucid Motors built 2,954 EVs in Q3 2026, a 54% year-over-year drop and the lowest quarterly output since Q1 2025, as CEO Silvio Napoli deliberately cuts production to align supply with weak demand.
Lucid Motors produced 2,954 electric vehicles in Q3 2026, marking the third consecutive quarter of declining output and the lowest figure since early 2025—just after the Gravity SUV launched. The company delivered 3,806 vehicles, roughly flat with Q2 and about 200 fewer than Q3 2025. In five of the last six quarters, Lucid built more cars than it sold. CEO Silvio Napoli, who took charge earlier this year, is executing a broad restructuring he calls 'simplifying the company.' That effort includes laying off roughly 1,500 employees, cutting a second factory shift at the Arizona plant, and targeting $1.4 billion in cost savings. Lucid also pushed back its third model, the Cosmos—a sub-$50,000 SUV aimed at a broader audience. Napoli acknowledged the company's track record bluntly on the Q2 earnings call: 'We have not executed consistently. We missed commitments, launched products before they were ready, underinvested in service, responded too slowly to quality issues.' The numbers look even worse against Lucid's own 2021 SPAC projections, which forecast 90,000 deliveries in 2024 alone. The company raised $4 billion in that deal. Meanwhile, rival Rivian posted nearly 20,000 deliveries in Q3—its best quarter ever—driven by the more affordable R2 SUV.
