LineageOS 24.0 Ships on Android 17

Original: LineageOS 24.0

Why This Matters

LineageOS keeps aging Android hardware alive; Android 17 support this early extends device lifespans further.

LineageOS 24.0 released October 11, 2026, based on Android 17. Includes security patches through October 2026, a new Canvas image editor, PWA support in Jelly browser, and streamed OTA updates for A/B devices.

LineageOS has released version 24.0, branded 'Changelog 32,' built on Android 17 — which Google shipped in June 2026. The team notes it completed the rebase faster than expected, crediting prior work adapting to Google's extensive refactoring across recent Android versions. The release arrives ahead of the project's 10th anniversary on December 24, 2026.

Security patches from August 2025 through October 2026 are merged across LineageOS 18.1 to 24.0. Full bulletin parity is maintained for Android 14 (LineageOS 21) and newer. Older branches 15.1, 16.0, and 17.1 receive backported patches through November 2025, though the security patch level string won't be updated for these.

Application updates are notable. Canvas, a new image editor, handles cropping, white balance, and filters, complementing the existing Glimpse gallery and Aperture camera. The Jelly browser gains PWA-like shortcut support. Twelve (the music app) now surfaces 'Most Played' albums, fixes offload audio stalls, and improves Jellyfin integration. The Updater app, redesigned for Material Design 3 Expressive, now streams updates by default — cutting installation time significantly on A/B partition devices. The Android TV launcher Catapult also received battery indicators and animation refreshes.
