KPMG withdraws AI usage report due to apparent hallucinations

Why This Matters
Highlights risks of AI-generated content in professional services industry
KPMG pulled its October 2025 report 'Redefining excellence in the age of agentic AI' after organizations including UBS, NHS, Swiss Federal Railways, and Transport for London said claims about their AI usage were untrue or misleading.
Professional services firm KPMG removed a report from its websites after research group GPTZero identified numerous inaccuracies stemming from AI hallucinations. The report, published in October 2025, contained false claims about AI usage at major organizations including UBS, the UK's National Health Service, Swiss Federal Railways, and Transport for London. KPMG appears to have used AI to help write the report about AI without proper human oversight. A KPMG spokesperson said the firm is conducting its own investigation and expects staff to follow guidelines on responsible AI use with human validation. This follows EY's withdrawal last month of a loyalty rewards report containing fake footnotes and AI hallucinations.
