Pocket FM revenue hits $500M ARR, AI drives 93% of content
Original: India’s Pocket FM doubles revenue run rate to $500M as AI powers 93% of audio content
Why This Matters
Demonstrates how AI-driven content production can scale a media platform rapidly while slashing costs.
Indian audio storytelling platform Pocket FM doubled its annualized revenue run rate to $500M as of September 2026, up from $250M a year ago. AI now powers 93% of its catalog and produces 99% of all new content, cutting production costs by 80x.
Pocket FM, founded in India in 2018, has doubled its annualized revenue run rate to $500 million, up from $250 million a year ago and $430 million in April 2026. Co-founder and CEO Rohan Nayak credited the growth largely to a dramatic AI-driven shift in content production. AI now generates 93% of the platform's overall catalog and 99% of new content, reducing production costs by approximately 80 times. Content that previously took a year to produce — around 100 hours — can now be completed in a single day. The platform's 550,000-plus creators produce about 2.5 million hours of AI-powered content annually, compared to a total catalog of just 100,000 hours two years ago. The library now exceeds 770,000 audio series. AI Head Vasu Sharma, formerly of Meta and Tesla, said the company trained its own models for creative writing and text-to-speech using years of production and listener engagement data. Despite the AI push, Nayak emphasized that human creators remain central: 'We want to create great IPs that last 100 years, and that needs humans.' The 12-month revenue retention rate improved to 76% from 44% two years ago. Pocket FM has expanded into the U.K., Germany, and France, and now has over 250 million listeners globally. Ninety-six titles have each surpassed $1 million in revenue, with 13 exceeding $10 million.
