Google's Genie world model integrates Street View for real street simulation

Original: Google’s Genie world model can now simulate real streets with Street View

Why This Matters

Advances AI simulation capabilities for robotics training and autonomous vehicle development

Google DeepMind connects Street View to Project Genie world model, enabling interactive simulation of real streets with adjustable weather and scenarios. Feature launched at Google I/O, rolling out to AI Ultra subscribers in US starting today.

Google DeepMind announced integration of Street View with Project Genie, its general-purpose world model that generates interactive environments. The feature allows users to simulate real streets with adjustable conditions like weather or disaster scenarios. Google has collected over 280 billion Street View images across 110 countries over 20 years. Research scientist Jack Parker-Holder explained the technology could help train robots for rare conditions, like London robots experiencing sunlight, or allow users to visualize locations in different seasons. Genie 3 already powers Waymo simulators for training self-driving cars on rare events. Unlike existing car-perspective simulators, Street View in Genie enables multiple viewpoints including human and robot perspectives. The feature launches to some US AI Ultra subscribers today, expanding to global Ultra users over coming weeks.
