Google launches Cloud Fraud Defense, evolution of reCAPTCHA
Original: Google Cloud fraud defense, the next evolution of reCAPTCHA
Why This Matters
Addresses emerging security challenges from AI agents and autonomous systems
Google announced Google Cloud Fraud Defense at Cloud Next, a trust platform designed to verify legitimacy of bots, humans, and AI agents in the agentic web era. The platform includes agentic activity measurement, policy engine, and AI-resistant QR code challenges.
Google Cloud launched Fraud Defense as the next evolution of reCAPTCHA to address security challenges in the agentic web where autonomous AI agents conduct complex transactions. The platform offers three key capabilities: agentic activity measurement through a dashboard that integrates with Web Bot Auth and SPIFEE standards to identify and analyze agentic traffic; an agentic policy engine providing granular control to allow or block agents based on risk scores and automation types; and AI-resistant QR code-based challenges requiring human verification to deter automated fraud. Existing reCAPTCHA customers automatically become Fraud Defense customers with no migration, action, or pricing changes required. The platform uses Google's global security signals to protect digital interactions and commerce.
