Why This Matters
Democratizes personalized AI image generation, lowering barrier to entry and expanding Gemini's competitive position against other AI platforms.
Google announced June 29 that Gemini's personalized image generation feature powered by Nano Banana is now available free to all eligible US users, expanding access beyond Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers.
Google announced on June 29 that it is expanding access to Gemini's personalized image generation feature to all eligible users in the United States at no cost. The feature, powered by Nano Banana technology, was previously limited to Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers. The personalized image generation leverages Google account data from Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube, and Search to create images reflecting user preferences and interests without requiring explicit specification in prompts. For example, users can request 'Create an illustration of me and my favorite things' instead of listing specific items. The feature can also pull actual images from Google Photos without manual uploads. Google initially announced the Personal Intelligence feature in April and rolled it out widely to US users in March. The company recently expanded the functionality to users in India and Japan. Personal Intelligence is opt-in, allowing users to control which apps Gemini can access. It defaults to enabled but can be toggled off in the Tools menu. Google also announced upcoming Gemini features including Daily Brief, a revamped interface, access to the Gemini Omni video model, and a personal AI agent called Gemini Spark. Gemini surpassed 750 million monthly active users earlier in 2026.
