Original: Foxconn Ransomware Attack Shows Nothing Is Safe Forever
Why This Matters
Supply chain attacks on major manufacturers threaten global tech production
Nitrogen ransomware group claims to have stolen 8 terabytes of data from Foxconn, including schematics from Apple, Google, Dell and Nvidia. The electronics manufacturing giant confirmed cyberattacks on North American factories but says production is resuming.
The Nitrogen ransomware group targeted Foxconn, claiming theft of 8TB of sensitive data including customer schematics from Apple, Google, Dell, and Nvidia. Foxconn acknowledged cyberattacks on North American factories and said affected facilities are resuming normal production. This marks the latest in a series of attacks on the iPhone manufacturer, following previous incidents by DoppelPaymer in 2020 ($34 million demand), LockBit in 2022 and 2024. Nitrogen, active since 2023 with about 50 victims, primarily targets manufacturing, technology and retail sectors. The group's ransomware has a critical flaw making decryption impossible even with payment, according to researchers.
