Mozilla announced on July 21, 2026, the Preview release of native Containers in Firefox 153. The feature isolates cookies and ad tracking across separate browsing contexts — work, personal, shopping, banking — within a single browser window, without requiring an extension.
Mozilla has launched a Preview of built-in Containers in Firefox 153, bringing cookie and ad tracking isolation natively into the browser for the first time. Previously available only through the Multi-Account Containers extension — which has been in use for nearly a decade — the feature is now integrated directly into Firefox without requiring any add-on installation.
Containers allow users to maintain separate browsing sessions for different contexts (e.g., work, personal, banking, shopping) simultaneously in one window. Activity and cookies in one container are not visible to other containers, limiting cross-site ad tracking.
In the current Preview, users can open tabs in specific containers, create and customize containers with names, colors, and icons, and manage settings from within Firefox's native settings panel. To get started, users can right-click any tab or long-press the new tab (+) button.
Mozilla noted that not all features of the existing Multi-Account Containers extension are yet available in the native version, and users may continue running both simultaneously. The company stated this release is "the first step" toward broader context-separation features, with further refinements planned. User feedback is being collected via Mozilla Connect.
