Ferrari partners with IBM to use AI for enhanced F1 fan engagement

Why This Matters
Demonstrates AI's growing role in sports entertainment and fan engagement strategies
Ferrari has partnered with IBM to revamp its fan app using AI technology, aiming to create deeper connections with Formula One supporters. The collaboration focuses on transforming race data into engaging content and personalized experiences for fans.
Ferrari's partnership with IBM centers on overhauling the Ferrari fan app to enhance fan engagement through AI-powered features. The team hired Stefano Pallard as 'head of fan development' to tackle the challenge of making each fan 'feel like we know them.' The enhanced app now includes AI-written race summaries, games for fan interaction, behind-the-scenes content, prediction features, and an AI companion for answering questions. Previously available only in English, the app now supports Italian despite Ferrari being an Italian company. Ferrari processes millions of data points per second during races, capturing driver and car movements. IBM's Kameryn Stanhouse noted that sports provide excellent opportunities for AI adoption due to abundant data availability. Ferrari joins McLaren and Williams as one of the few F1 teams with standalone fan app strategies rather than relying solely on social media or official F1 platforms.
