Fastmail has launched an EU data region, allowing users to store their primary email data on the company's own servers in Amsterdam. Previously, all accounts were stored exclusively in the US. Users can now choose between EU and US regions.
Email service provider Fastmail announced on August 3, 2026, that it now offers an EU data region, giving users the option to store their primary email and file data on Fastmail-owned servers co-located in a secure facility in Amsterdam. Previously, all user data was stored entirely in the US, across Fastmail's own infrastructure in Philadelphia and St. Louis.
CEO Bron Gondwana emphasized that the Amsterdam facility uses Fastmail's own hardware and software — not rented cloud services from third-party providers — consistent with the company's 25-year approach to privacy and reliability.
For EU-region accounts, the primary copy of data lives in Amsterdam, with incoming mail routed to EU servers by preference when using Fastmail's nameservers or EU-region domains. Apps connect to EU infrastructure by default, with US servers as a fallback. A resilient replica is currently stored in the US, as Fastmail has only one European location so far.
For US-region accounts, both primary and replica copies remain on servers in Philadelphia or St. Louis, unchanged from the existing setup. Emergency backups for all users continue to be stored in the Philadelphia location regardless of regional choice.
