Why This Matters
Shows AI integration becoming standard for e-commerce platforms seeking enhanced discovery
Etsy announced Tuesday the launch of its native app within ChatGPT, allowing users to explore over 100 million listings using natural language queries instead of traditional keyword searches.
The new ChatGPT integration lets users tag @Etsy directly in prompts and express shopping needs in natural language, such as asking for Mother's Day gift recommendations under $100. The beta feature surfaces relevant product listings that users can browse and click through to Etsy for purchase. This replaces Etsy's previous ChatGPT Instant Checkout integration that ended in March due to low sales volume. Etsy is also testing a conversational gift assistant on its own platform. The move supports Etsy's broader AI strategy including discovery features, seller tools for generating product descriptions, and transparency labels for AI-generated content. Last week, Etsy reported Q1 2026 revenue of $631 million, beating expectations, with active buyers growing to 86.6 million for the first time in two years.
