Schmidt Holds ~1% of Anthropic, Half of Amodei's Stake
Original: Eric Schmidt reportedly owns about half as much of Anthropic as CEO Dario Amodei
Why This Matters
Early-stage AI stakes at Series A scale are now worth hundreds of billions at exit.
Eric Schmidt owns roughly 1% of Anthropic after investing tens of millions in its 2021 Series A at a $461M valuation, Bloomberg reports. That stake could add up to $20B to his net worth if Anthropic IPOs at $2T.
Eric Schmidt, former Google CEO, quietly secured a stake in Anthropic that Bloomberg now estimates at around 1% of the company — roughly half the 2% held by co-founder and CEO Dario Amodei. Schmidt invested tens of millions in Anthropic's Series A back in 2021, when the startup was valued at just $461 million per PitchBook data.
Anthropica is widely expected to go public before year-end, with some market estimates pushing its valuation toward $2 trillion. At that ceiling, Schmidt's slice would add approximately $20 billion to a net worth Bloomberg currently pegs at $57.5 billion.
Schmidt has deployed capital since leaving Google's top job in 2011, operating through Tomorrow Ventures, Innovation Endeavors Management, and family office Hillspire. His other AI bets include Mistral, General Intuition, and Reflection AI. Neither Schmidt nor Anthropic responded to TechCrunch's request for comment.
