Musk Invests $1B in Skydance Media

Original: Elon Musk made a $1 billion investment in Skydance, report says

Why This Matters

A $1B Musk stake adds financial firepower to a merger still finding its footing.

Elon Musk invested approximately $1 billion in Skydance, the media company formed after Paramount's $110B acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, per a Semafor report published October 22, 2026.

Elon Musk has put roughly $1 billion into Skydance, the newly combined media giant created when Paramount completed its $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. The deal brought together Paramount+ and HBO Max, plus a sprawling portfolio of networks — CBS, CNN, MTV, TBS, Comedy Central, and Food Network — under co-CEOs David Ellison and Ynon Kreiz.

According to Semafor, Musk's investment was made around the same time as equity contributions from other Skydance backers, including board member Laurene Powell Jobs. The timing matters: Skydance has already pledged to cut $6 billion in costs over three years and is under pressure to lift its stock price.

Musk's ties to the Ellison orbit run deep. Larry Ellison joined Tesla's board in 2018 and contributed $1 billion toward Musk's 2022 X acquisition. Musk has also publicly praised David Ellison. Skydance did not respond to TechCrunch's request for comment.
