Global music streaming service Deezer launched Remix Lab, a new feature enabling fans to creatively remix songs with original artists' and rights holders' consent. The platform implements in-app tools for remixes, including tempo adjustment, reverb effects, and more elaborate transformations such as genre and style changes, according to head of product Pierre Trochu. Unlike competing services, Deezer emphasizes that artists are compensated for each stream of remixed tracks. The feature differs from YouTube's AI-powered remix tools and Spotify's recent partnership with Universal Music Group for AI-generated covers. Deezer has maintained a strong stance against AI music, recently introducing a tool to detect AI-generated tracks on other platforms and actively removing them from recommendations and editorial playlists. CEO Alexis Lanternier stated the feature embodies Deezer's vision of enriching listener experience while maximizing artist earnings. Remix Lab is currently available in France with select artists including Céline Dion, Alain Souchon, Alonzo, Ronisia, Mosimann, Tiakola, and Zaho. Users can enter contests through Deezer Club with winners announced in early September, receiving playlist features and event tickets.
