OpenAI launched Codex for Open Source, a program designed to support maintainers of critical open-source software projects. Selected maintainers receive six months of ChatGPT Pro including Codex access, conditional access to Codex Security, and API credits for coding, maintainer automation, release workflows, and core open source work. The program targets maintainers of active projects with meaningful usage, broad adoption, or clear ecosystem importance. OpenAI evaluates applications based on repository usage, ecosystem significance, and evidence of active maintenance including pull request reviews, issue triage, and release management. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis with selected participants notified by email.
